U3A
The University of the Third Age offers the opportunity to share your knowledge, experience and talents with others and learn from them in friendly surroundings
The newly formed Hamble Valley U3A group, which covers Netley/Hound, Hamble, Bursledon, Botley, Hedge End and West End, , held their Inaugural Meeting on Tuesday 12 May at The Underhill Centre, St John’s Road, Hedge End. The Meeting was well attended by more than 80 members, and an initial total of eleven Interest Groups were formed. These were:
Nature Walks
Computing and Digital Photography
French
German
Spanish
Rural History
Classical Music for Pleasure
Theatre Visits
Genealogy for Beginners
Art and Creative Arts
Gardening
We hope to form many more Interest Groups as we progress. These groups will meet in members’ homes to share their knowledge and experience, which is the ethos of the U3A. Additionally, on the second Tuesday of each month at 2pm, meetings will be held at the Underhill Centre, with speakers on various topics. The subject for 9 June will be “Forgery in British Currency”, with speaker Richard Burton. We will be delighted to welcome new members (telephone: Lyn Morris on 01489 781845) – or just come along as a visitor to see what we are all about.
